What do you mean by research gaps? And what does that have to do with your thesis statement?

The main want of study in my area of Texas is the long term consequences of incarceration for delinquent behavior, and the effects generated by different types of restrictions. In Texas, many kids get into trouble for stealing, sex behavior, drugs, and if of a tender age, often these kids are restricted to "group" "homes" (and I use the term home very loosely). Research is lacking on the long term effects on these "homes". However, this is likely not suitable for an undergraduate research project, as you don't want to take 15 years to complete the project.

I see what bobpursley is referring to -- recent problems in society that don't have enough years of data for anyone to form conclusions. Thus, a gap.
