The y intercept is where the line hits the y axis, in other words when x = 0
that means that in the equation of the line
y = m x + b
the y intercept is where x = 0 and y = b
saying a point is on -3 and the other on + 5 does not help me
You have to say for example
at one point x = 0 and y = -3
and at the other point, x = +5 and y = 0
Every point in two dimensions has two coordinate values (x,y)
If my gues is correct and you mean
(0,-3) and (5,0)
then we know that in
y = m x + b
-3 = 0 + b
so b = -3
and we know that
0 = m(5) - 3
so m = 3/5
thus the line is
y = (3/5)x - 3
Hi Steve,
Sorry I did not explain my self better than I did. See this is the second time taking this Statistic course,and I have no idea how to do anythings.
The question is:
Hi Steve,
It is a graph where there is a line on point is on -3 and the other point is on +5
It says writing and equation of a line given the y intercept and another point.
