Hi I need help with this one problem. It's on page 167 algebra with pizzazz. It has to use the addition method.

How do you start it then I can solve it easily. I'm not cheating.!!!!!
You want either the x's or the y's to have opposite coefficients.
let's work on the y's
#1 times 2 ----> 6x - 10y = 14
#2 times -5 ---> -25x + 10y =5
add them:
-19x = 19
x = -19/19 = -1
back in #1:
3(-1) - 5y = 7
=5y = 7 + 3 = 10
y = -2
x = -1 , y = -2
let's work on the y's
#1 times 2 ----> 6x - 10y = 14
#2 times -5 ---> -25x + 10y =5
add them:
-19x = 19
x = -19/19 = -1
back in #1:
3(-1) - 5y = 7
=5y = 7 + 3 = 10
y = -2
x = -1 , y = -2
