Hi, can you please check my answer, this is one week overdue.
At the halftime show, a marching band marched in formation. The lead drummer started at a point with coordinates (-2,-5) and moves 3 steps up and 1 step right.
a. Write a rule to describe the translation.
b. What were the coordinates of the drummer's final position?
My answer:
The rule for the translation of (-2, -5) is, (-2, -5,) › (-2 + 3, -5 +1)
The initial point is (-2, -5). The x-coordinate is -2, and the y-coordinate is -5. 1 step up means plus 1 to the x-coordinate, 3 steps up means plus 3 to the y-coordinate. -2 + 1 = -1
-5 + 3 = -2
The final position of the drummer is point (-1, -2).

I'm not trying to be impatient, but my mom is really mad at me for not submitting this.
The coordinates for the final position are not right. It appears at first glace that you have interchanged the x and y numbers for the final position.
so it should be (-2, -1)
Your translation rule is not correct...
but your understanding of moving up affects the y co-ordinate, and moving right affects the x-co-ordinate was correct.
So again, your translation rule was wrong, but your final position was correct using the step pattern (3 steps up means plus 3 to the y-coordinate)...

Can you help me explain the translation rule?
