Ladies and gentlemen, esteemed guests, it is with a heavy heart that I stand before you today to address the devastating issue of gender-based violence. In our society, our very own sisters, daughters, mothers, and friends are facing violence and discrimination simply because of their gender.
It is a harsh reality that every second, a woman somewhere in the world is dying as a result of gender-based violence. This is a pandemic that knows no boundaries, affecting women of all ages, races, and backgrounds. It is a cruel injustice that must be brought to the forefront and eradicated from our societies.
The statistics are staggering - according to the World Health Organization, 1 in 3 women globally have experienced physical or sexual intimate partner violence or non-partner sexual violence in their lifetime. These numbers highlight the urgent need for action to address this crisis and protect our sisters from harm.
We must all band together to stand up against gender-based violence. We must raise our voices, speak out against injustice, and take concrete action to support and protect those who are vulnerable. We must educate ourselves and those around us about the importance of gender equality and respect for all individuals, regardless of their gender.
It is our responsibility as a society to create a world where our sisters can live free from fear and violence. We must hold perpetrators accountable for their actions and ensure that justice is served for those who have been harmed. We must provide support and resources for survivors to heal and rebuild their lives.
Each and every one of us has a role to play in ending the epidemic of gender-based violence. Let us come together, stand in solidarity with our sisters, and work towards a future where all women can live in safety and dignity. The time for change is now. Thank you.
