I have 36.06 g of Zn heated in an open crucible. It reacts with oxygen in the air to make a product with a mass of 44.8 g.
36.06 g * 1 mol /65.38 g = 0.552 mol of Zn
44.8 - 36.06 = 8.74 g of O
O is 16 g/mol
so
8.74 g * 1 mol / 16 g = 0.546 mol of O
Looks like ZnO one mol zinc to one mol O
2 Zn + O2 ---> 2 ZnO
Hello, my question is: How do I determine the molar ratio of zinc to oxygen in the compound and write its formula?
I have 36.06 g of Zn heated in an open crucible. It reacts with oxygen in the air to make a product with a mass of 44.8 g.
I figured out how many moles there are present in each product.
Zinc = 0.552 moles
Oxygen = 0.545 moles
What would I do to determine the molar ratio?
So far I have:
Zn + O2 ---> ZnO2
What do I then do to find the molar ratio of zinc to oxygen and its formula?

How did you end up with 2 ration id it only gives you one?
Shouldnt be Zn+O=ZnO?
Shouldnt be Zn+O=ZnO?
