Hello. I'll be very grateful for your advice and help.

I want to say that something was planned but did not happen. Is it possible to use the following structures:
1) He was to come but he didn't.
2) He was to have come but he didn't.

Both are correct, but a little awkward.

He was supposed to come, but he didn't.
