I copied and pasted the above passage into a Word document and then typed READABILITY into the help search box. I have Word 2003, so the readability process is built into the spelling and grammar check process. It told me these things about the readability in this passage:
Passive sentences = 66%
Flesch reading ease = 71.4
Flesch-Kinkaid Grade Level = 7.4 (meaning it would take someone reading on grade level in 7th grade, 4th month of the school year to understand the passage)
