How do I find just the square root of 3?
3 is the square root of 9 ... so the square root of 8 is less than 3 by a little
... so √8 + 3 is a little less than 6
8 is already larger than 6 ... adding the √3 just makes the difference larger
so ... √8 + 3 is LESS THAN 8 + √3
... the smaller (pointy) side of the arrow goes toward the smaller quantity
... so √8 + 3 is a little less than 6

Hello Mr. Scott. Is the square root of 8? 2
Would square root of 8 + 3= 2 + 3=6?
Would square root of 8 + 3= 2 + 3=6?
Hello Mr. Scott,
I understand with the way you explained it because 6 is already less than 8 and yes you are right that the square root of 3 would make the answer bigger so instead of having to figure out square root of 3 then the 6 is less than 8 so you are just saying this is just an easy way to find this out. Is this correct?

How would you go about figuring out the square root of 3 though?

the calculator is easiest ... but there is a "long hand" method
... it's like long division

what do they teach in class for finding square roots?
