I don't recall the chapter, since I no longer have the book
However, the episode where he was captured and held by the Taliban for 6 days in pretty awful circumstances without any explanation or accusations remains in my memory.
At the end of the ordeal, the leader of the group, his name was Khan if I recall, released him, asked him to join in some sort of celebration.
He also asked him to participate in a football game, and at the end handed him a wad of money for Mortenson's schools.
I recall that it illustrated the absurdity of dealing with a culture so alien to ours.
