Portfolio Item: Scatter Plots & Data Analysis Sample Work

In this project, I was tasked with analyzing a dataset containing information about student test scores and studying habits to determine if there was a relationship between the two variables. To visually represent this relationship, I created scatter plots to see if there was any correlation between the amount of time students spent studying and their test scores.

After cleaning and organizing the data, I plotted the data points on a scatter plot with the x-axis representing the number of hours studied and the y-axis representing the test scores. I then used different colors and shapes to represent different groups within the dataset, such as male and female students or students from different grade levels.

By examining the patterns in the scatter plot, I was able to identify a positive correlation between the amount of time spent studying and the test scores achieved. This finding was further supported by calculating the correlation coefficient, which confirmed a strong positive relationship between the two variables.

Overall, this project demonstrated my ability to manipulate and analyze data using scatter plots as a visual tool. The insights gained from this analysis were valuable in understanding the importance of studying habits in academic performance and could be used to inform future interventions aimed at improving student outcomes.
