For what value of x are 16i-12j+4k and xi-(x-1)j+k parallel?

1 answer

To be parallel:
x/16 = -(x-1)/-12= 1/4

using x/16 = 1/4
4x = 16
x = 4

does that work for -(x-1)/-12 ??
sub in x = 4 to get
-(4-1)/-12
= 3/12 = 1/4, YES

x = 4
