whats the equation for surface area?
what does that mean. im sorry
you know how to... one min... im going to search on google
surface area= 2b+Ph
b= base
P= perimeter of base
h= height

now plug in ur info into the formula and u get the answer! don't be sorry, i don't think ur teacher taught it to you! :)
No she didn't explain it good to me. So I times 2and b together and times p and h together then add them?
Your description is not clear.
A square prism has two ends that are squares, basically a box.
see:
https://www.google.ca/search?q=square+prism&biw=1663&bih=929&tbm=isch&imgil=Rh18AWgVlirFIM%253A%253BaxhcbOt3GqfHpM%253Bhttp%25253A%25252F%25252Fwww.k6-geometric-shapes.com%25252Fsquare-prism.html&source=iu&pf=m&fir=Rh18AWgVlirFIM%253A%252CaxhcbOt3GqfHpM%252C_&usg=__xc7rOHZgoNOeFZNpV5BGTCPKkWM%3D&dpr=1&ved=0CCgQyjc&ei=E7PSVOuqPIegNsTzgGg#imgdii=_&imgrc=xEjGZoPI9ZN1dM%253A%3B2JldHShkrdwBPM%3Bhttp%253A%252F%252Feducation-portal.com%252Fcimages%252Fmultimages%252F16%252Fdrawingrectangularsquareprism.png%3Bhttp%253A%252F%252Feducation-portal.com%252Facademy%252Flesson%252Fsquare-prism-definition-examples-quiz.html%3B300%3B300

You say: the base is 14 in
Do you mean each side of the square base is 14 inches?

then you say: the perimeter is 8 inches.
The perimeter of what?
And then it says: the height is 10 inches
No matter which way I wrap a string around the box, (the perimeter) , I can't get 8 inches.

none of this makes sense to me
I have tried many surface area equations, and this is the only one that worked.

SA = 2ab + 2bc + 2ac - (a is 14, b is 10, and c is 8.)

= (2*14*10) + (2*10*8) + (2*14*8)

= 280 + 160 + 224

= 664

The equation that I used is for a rectangular prism.

I was only doing equations for prisms, and this is the only one that worked.

I hope this helps? :)

P.S. I am sorry if this could be wrong. I have been trying for quite a while. If this is wrong, I think you should ask your teacher about it.
Also, you make a good point, Reiny.
