Find the start, elapsed, or end time.

Question

1. Start time is 11:00am
Elapsed time is 4 hours and 5 minutes
How do you go about finding the end time?

2. Start time
Elapsed time is 9 3/4 hours
End time is 6:00pm
I am really confused on how to begin finding the start time.

Don't tell anybody, but I always count time on my fingers.

4 hours after 11 am is 3 pm
so 3:05 pm

6 pm end time

one way is to say that 6 pm = 6+12=18 am
(that is regrouping. It is also military time :)

18 am - 10 + 1/4 also regrouped 9 3/4 into 10 - 1/4
and 18 - (10-1/4) = 18 - 10 + 1/4

so 8 and 1/4
= 8:15 am

ah well, so much for Singapore math :)

6 pm - 6 = noon
we need to go back 3 3/4 more
noon - 3 = 9 am
we need to go back 3/4 more
9 am - 3/4 hour = 8:15
