I remember a few basic conversion factors. This type problem is all about units. You want to multiply the number you have by a factor that cancels the unit you have and changes to the unit you want.
feet to inches--you know there are 12 inches in 1 foot. So
5.6 ft^2 x (12 in/1 ft)(12 in/1 ft) = ??in^2.
Note how the ft^2 in the numerator cancels with the ft x ft in the denominator(s) and the in x in in the numerator(s) remain.
For the middle one, there are 3 ft in 1 yard. For the last, I would convert m to cm to in to yards BUT you may want to do it differently. You may have a direct conversion from m to yd but that was too much for me to try to remember. Finally, you can check yourself by going to google.com and typing in "5.6 square feet to square inches" and hit the enter button. That should return the correct answer.
Fill in the blanks.
(a) 5.6 ft2 = ____ in2
(b) 5.6 yd2 = _____ ft2
(c) 5.6 m2 = ____ yd2
can you please explain how to do it

b and c are ok. a is 806.4 square inches which rounds to 810 to two significant figures which is better to be written as 8.1 x 102 (810 shows 3 s.f. and you are allowed only 2 and the best way of showing that is to write the number in scientific notation.)
ok, thanks!!
