Factor the following trinomial:

12x^2 - 11x + 2
Please help I have no idea how to do this!

2 answers

12x2 = 24
look for two numbers which multiply to get 24 and have a sum of -11
how about -3 and -8

so 12x^2 - 11x + 2
= 12x^2 - 3x - 8x + 2
= 3x(4x - 1) - 2(4x - 1)
= (4x-1)(3x-2)
thanks
