Graffiti has been around for a long time, but modern graffiti as we know it started in 1960s Philadelphia with Darryl McCray. It became a major street art form in New York in the 1970s and was dubbed 'graffiti' by The New York Times and Norman Mailer. Graffiti is a form of artistic expression often considered rebellious. It comes in different forms such as Cards, Throws/bombs, letters, puzzle pieces/characters, art, stencils, flour and stickers. Graffiti is used for the public display of artistic expression to address lack of access to museums and art establishments, and to address political views, cultural images, and religions. as well as stories that counter the dominant portraits of life in certain regions.
