I don't know where 'bobpursley' learned his math, or why he keeps answering math questions on this site incorrectly, but here's how it's actually done.
There are 60 minutes in an hour, so 55 minutes can be expressed, very simply, as 55 / 60
To reduce this fraction, look for a common factor in 55 and 60; in this case 5. So dividing by 5, both top & bottom, 55 / 60 = 11 / 12
Now to express 11 / 12 (55 minutes) as a fraction of 11 / 3 hours, simply divide them:
(11 / 12) / (11 / 3)
But remember, whenever you divide by a fraction, you can simply multiply by its reciprocal, so it becomes:
(11 / 12) * (3 / 11)
You see that the 11's cancel out, so multiplying across you get:
3 / 12
which simplifies down to
1 / 4
