In Galatians 2:13, Paul is recounting a situation where even Barnabas was swayed by the hypocrisy of certain Jewish Christians who were causing division among the believers. Peter had previously been eating with Gentile believers but when certain Jews arrived, he started avoiding them out of fear of criticism from the Jewish Christians. This behavior was not consistent with Peter's previous actions and caused confusion and disunity within the church. Paul confronts Peter about his hypocrisy and sets an example for believers to stand firm in their faith and not be swayed by peer pressure or fear of man.
