What you have to balance in production is ...performance standards, cost, and schedule. Those three things interact in complex ways, that depend on the particular product. Performance standards include technical performance, and quality. Production schedule, and costs are tradeoffs.
For examples, one has to got to particular products or challenges. That my friend, is a worthy endeavour, worthy of any experienced project manager.
