1. Each team consists of six players on the court at a time: three players in the front row and three players in the back row.
2. The game begins with a serve from behind the back boundary line of the court. The server must hit the ball over the net and into the opponent's court.
3. Once the ball is served, each team has three hits to return the ball over the net: a bump, a set, and a spike. The same player cannot hit the ball twice in a row, except if the ball is blocked back onto the attacker's side.
4. The ball must pass over the net and into the opponent's court without touching the net or any other object outside the court boundaries.
5. A point is scored when the serving team wins a rally or the receiving team makes a mistake. Points can also be scored on service aces or blocks.
6. The first team to reach 25 points wins a set, but they must win by at least two points. Matches are typically played as best-of-five sets.
7. Teams switch sides of the court after every set, and players rotate positions after winning the serve.
8. Players can touch the ball with any part of their body above the waist, but they cannot catch or hold the ball. Double hits or carries are also not allowed.
9. If the ball touches the boundary lines, it is considered in bounds. If the ball touches the net and lands in the opponent's court, it is a legal play.
10. Players can block and attack the ball at the net, but they must stay on their side of the court during the opponent's attack. Blocking is not considered a hit, so the team has three hits to return the ball.
