Everyone faces feelings of failure at some point in life. No one is perfect. We all know what it feels like to not reach our goals and/or make a mistake. In this activity, you will interview someone about a time in their life they felt like a failure. Select a friend, teacher, or an adult at home or in your community (this could be a parent, neighbor etc.) and ask this question: "Has there ever been a time in your life when you felt like you failed at something? How did that make you feel? How did you work to move past it?" Take notes as you listen to their response. Pay attention to the ways they tried to overcome frustration. When you finish the interview, use this space below to summarize what you heard. Be prepared to share what you've learned.
During the interview with my friend, they shared a time when they felt like a failure was when they didn't get a job that they had applied for after months of preparing for the interview. They said that they felt disappointed and frustrated with themselves, and they initially struggled to move past it. However, they eventually decided to use the experience as a learning opportunity. They reflected on their performance during the interview, identified areas for improvement, and took steps to work on those skills. They also sought advice from mentors and friends, who provided support and encouragement. Eventually, they were able to bounce back from the setback, landed a different job, and used the experience to grow and develop professionally. Overall, my friend's story taught me the importance of resilience, self-reflection, and seeking support when facing feelings of failure.
