1 answer

Participating in this project has significantly shifted my perspective on youth risky behavior in several ways:

  1. Understanding Complexity: I now recognize that youth risky behavior is often influenced by a complex interplay of social, economic, and psychological factors. It’s not merely about individual choices; understanding the broader context is essential.

  2. Empathy Towards Youth: Engaging with young people and hearing their stories has fostered a deeper empathy for their experiences. I now appreciate the pressures they face, which can drive them toward risky behaviors, such as peer pressure, mental health issues, and societal expectations.

  3. Importance of Support Systems: The project highlighted the critical role of family, community, and educational institutions in shaping youth behavior. I’ve come to see how supportive environments can effectively mitigate risks by providing guidance, resources, and positive reinforcement.

  4. Shift in Approach to Prevention: I have learned that prevention strategies need to be proactive and inclusive. Rather than solely focusing on discouraging risky behaviors, there's more value in empowering youth with skills, resilience, and positive alternatives. This holistic approach can lead to more effective outcomes in reducing risky behaviors.

Overall, my participation has enriched my understanding of youth risky behavior, advocating for a more compassionate and integrated approach to addressing these issues.
