How many passengers are in each car? You can figure that out from the first sentence. ahere's how:
Three of the 45 people per car are not passengers. The rest are. How many is that?

Then multiply that number of passengers by the number of carriages.
So do you go ;
42x12?
yes
41x12=492 passengers
12x3=36 stewards
12x1=12 gaurds
so in all the train is carrying 540 people.
41 x 12 is the answer they are looking for. I was wrong when I wrote that three on each carriage were not passengers. A Duh moment
I know this is from 2009 but this helped me alot! Thx
