"e. g." means "for example" -- I hope it's not considered in what the question means!

"Is the hotel closed?" can mean either 1 or 2, depending on the situation.
~ 1 means the hotel is in business, but just closed up for the night -- will reopen in the morning.
~ 2 means the hotel has gone out of business.
