Douglass explains in chapter one of his autobiography
“Narrative of The Life of Frederick Douglass” that a number of the slave owners took advantage of their owned female slaves creating unwanted offspring called mulatto. These children were abused because the slave owners hated and despised them for even existing. They would sell these children. One of the main reasons for this was, if they kept the kids it would remind them of their moral failures as well as being a burden to the slave owners. When the slave owners have white kids they would batter and beat their half brothers, the half sons of the slave owners. Many of the dehumanizing acts that the enslavers committed by some sort of mentally and obviously morally wrong biblical jurisdiction, they used to justify clearly inhumane and morally corrupt reasoning. This damages their thinking process while also making them lose the humanity they once had. Representation of this was stated during chapter one.
