Does m^8/m^4 (Exponent) equal m^2? I think it does.

no. You subtract exponents, not divide. To see why, expand things out:

m^8 = m*m*m*m*m*m*m*m
m^4 = m*m*m*m

now, when you divide, only four of the factors cancel, not six.
