Directions: The zombie apocalypse has struck! The teachers have abandoned their podiums and are roaming the hallways hunting for brains. They’re struggling to find any since the classrooms are in lockdown. Your phones aren’t working. You haven’t heard from your parents, and you can’t even get a hold of your friend down the hall. You managed to push Ms. Rascon into the hall with the shield she has on her back shelf. Maybe that’s what it was for, zombie defense. While you were slamming the door on her you notice that students who ran out of their classrooms weren’t making it very far. They fell victim to teacher zombies quickly and joined their hungry roaming. The hallways aren’t safe! Will you survive?

You can’t live in room 732 forever. You haven’t gotten a chance to go to lunch yet and there’s only that one box of granola bars, pack of 40 water bottles, and some creamer in the fridge in the back room, plus the grab-n-go from this morning. Ther is also a portable potty, inside you will find other items useful in case of an emergency. There is a white box labeled “Emergency Kit”; decide as a group what item would be the most useful in this situation and that is the item you will find inside (cannot be internet). The internet is down (big surprise) so laptops aren’t helpful either. You have your cell phone but it’s not working, the battery is low and none of you brought your phone chargers. The only thing you can hear from other rooms is screaming and zombies running into the walls. It is safe to assume your peers are joining the undead in their hunt for brains. So, what are you going to do?

Stage 1: Physiological NeedsYou need food. Yeah, the granola bars are fine for now, but they will not last long and you desperately need some water. You also probably can’t stay in this classroom forever because without windows you are unable to

see what is happening outside, and it’s only a matter of time before the teacher zombies find a way to break in. You need a plan to find more resources and potentially reach a safer location. You gather your group to discuss the best course of action.

Here’s what you can do:

  1. Evaluate Resources:

    • Food: Granola bars are limited, but you could ration them. The grab-n-go might have more nutritious options.
    • Water: With 40 water bottles, hydration shouldn’t be an immediate concern, but you must consider how long you can stretch it.
    • Emergency Kit: The contents of the emergency kit might prove critical for survival, so decide together what to retrieve from it.
  2. Choose the Emergency Kit Item:

    • Consider what item from the emergency kit would be most useful. Options could include:
      • A first-aid kit (could help treat injuries)
      • A flashlight (for visibility in dark areas and signaling)
      • A whistle (for communication over distances)

Group Decision: After discussing, the group decides that a flashlight would be the most beneficial. It will provide light, help you navigate dark areas, and could be used to signal help.

  3. Formulate an Escape Plan:

    • Route Options: You’ll need to identify potential escape routes from room 732. Locate a map of the school if possible, or figure out viable routes to the nearest exit.
    • Timing: Observe the sounds in the hall. Determine if there are times when the zombie teachers seem to move away from your immediate area, allowing for a window of opportunity to leave.
    • Buddy System: Decide on a few people to stick together as you move out. Create a plan for communication and signals to regroup if separated.
  4. Gather Supplies:

    • Before moving, everyone should grab as much food and water as possible, along with the flashlight. Ensure one person is designated to carry the Emergency Kit item and any portable potty items that might be useful.
  5. Set Up a Distraction:

    • If possible, create a distraction to divert the attention of the teacher zombies. This could involve banging on a trash can or throwing something down the hallway to create noise and lure them away from your exit.
  6. Leave the Classroom:

    • With your supplies and flashlight in hand, it’s time to make your move. Move quietly and stealthily to the hallway, sticking to shadows, and remain aware of your surroundings.
  7. Head to the Nearest Exit:

    • Navigate towards the nearest exit (like the main school door or an emergency exit). Use your group’s signals to keep track of everyone and stay in close proximity.
  8. Evaluate for Shelter:

    • Once outside, evaluate your new surroundings. Look for places that can provide temporary shelter (like cars, nearby buildings, etc.) and stay on the lookout for other classmates.

Final Thoughts:

You are not just trying to survive; you need to keep everyone calm during this frightening situation. Plan for the next steps carefully, and ready yourselves to face whatever may come next. Remember, teamwork and clever thinking can turn the tide in the face of the zombie apocalypse!
