This question is tricky, an Alibi is proof that you are not guilty because you weren't at the scene of the crime while the crime was committed (kind of like if you were at the party while someone was murdered, that's an alibi). Actually according to the googles, an alibi is quote "a claim or piece of evidence that one was elsewhere when an act, typically a criminal one, is alleged to have taken place."
"[...] for a crime they did commit." An alibi is used to prove that you DIDN'T commit a crime... So I'm going to say that this is false, that's just MY opinion though.
As written, the answer is "false," as Radar said.

If you meant this, though --> ... for a crime they did NOT commit ... <-- then the answer is "true."
