Then I composed a rectangle for the square by using two right triangles. Each right triangle had a base of 5 and a height of 2.5, so the area of each right triangle was 5 x 2.5 x 1/2 = 6.25. Since there were two right triangles, the total area of the square was 30 + 6.25 + 6.25 = 42.5.
For the polygon that I decomposed into simpler shapes, I used the square. I decomposed it into two right triangles and a rectangle. I calculated the area of each smaller shape separately and then added them together to find the total area of the square.
Describe in words how you calculated the area of each shape. Be sure to include
which formulas you used. For which polygon(s) did you compose a rectangle to find
the area? Which polygon(s) did you decompose into simpler shapes? Which simple
shapes did you use
i used a triangle, square, and 2 right riangles to make a square so it is still a square lol
For the triangle I used the expression b x h x 1/2, base is 8 and height is 5 so
8 x 5 x 1/2 = 20
For the square I used the expression l x w, length is 6 and width is 5 so
6 x 5 = 30
