Considering the events of the Arab Spring, write 3–5 sentences outlining how the consequences of authoritarian governments were both similar and different in the countries of Libya and Tunisia. List two similarities and two differences.

1 answer

In both Libya and Tunisia, the consequences of authoritarian governments led to widespread protests and demands for political reform. Additionally, both countries experienced the downfall of long-standing authoritarian leaders, Muammar Gaddafi in Libya and Zine El Abidine Ben Ali in Tunisia. However, the aftermath of the Arab Spring differed in these countries. Libya descended into chaos and civil war following Gaddafi's ousting, while Tunisia was able to transition to a more stable democracy. Additionally, Libya struggled with the presence of multiple armed militias vying for power, while Tunisia managed to maintain a more peaceful transition of power.
