Consider the observations you made working with the Paramecium Homeostasis Gizmo. Identify a question about the relationship between the water solute concentration and the number of contractions of the paramecium’s vacuole in a specified number of seconds. Consider writing your questions in an “if . . . then . . .” format. A hypothesis is a statement that proposes an explanation for what you observe. You might create your hypothesis by rewording your question as an “if . . . then . . .” statement in which you propose a result. For example, the hypothesis from your initial investigation with the Gizmo might have been, “If the contraction rate of the vacuole is kept constant at 1 contraction per 2 seconds, then over time, the paramecium solute concentration will decrease.” Think about your question and your variables and write your hypothesis.
