yes
(I would have changed everything to inches to get 'exact' answers)
your calculation of 432/.44 ≠ 972
432/.44 = 981.8 or 982 tiles
Compute the number of vinyl tiles, measuring 8 in each side, needed to tile a kitchen measuring 24ft by 18ft.
Area of kitchen:25X18=432
Area each tilein (feet):.667X.667=.44
432/.44=972 tiles
Is my work correct?

I would have worked with fractions
area each tile: 2/3 ft x 2/3 ft= 4/9 ft^2
number tiles=432/(4/9)= 9*432/4=9*108=972
Good work.
area each tile: 2/3 ft x 2/3 ft= 4/9 ft^2
number tiles=432/(4/9)= 9*432/4=9*108=972

Dang, how did I do that? 8/12=2/3 ft.
Here is the error, I didn't check your area calculation.
24x18=432 ft^2 correct.
that divided by (4/9)=972
Now looking at Dr Reiny's solution.
He used your approximation for area (.44 ft^2). I assume you did not use that in your calculator, but rather more significant digits (which got you the 972. I like to not use decimal equivalents to repeating fraction equivalents.
