The Classification of Individual Consumption According to Purpose (COICOP) is a framework used to classify and categorize consumer expenditures based on their purpose. In Rwanda, the COICOP classification system is used to categorize individual consumption according to purpose. The COICOP categories include the following:
1. Food and non-alcoholic beverages: This category includes expenditures on food products, non-alcoholic beverages, and other related items.
2. Alcoholic beverages, tobacco, and narcotics: This category includes expenditures on alcoholic beverages, tobacco products, and narcotics.
3. Clothing and footwear: This category includes expenditures on clothing, footwear, and related accessories.
4. Housing, water, electricity, gas, and other fuels: This category includes expenditures on housing, including rent, maintenance, and utilities such as water, electricity, gas, and other fuels.
5. Furnishings, household equipment, and routine household maintenance: This category includes expenditures on furniture, appliances, household equipment, and routine maintenance.
