Cheryl decided to create a flower bed in front of her house. One half of her flower bed is planted with pink tulips. She plants three-quarters of the rest of the ground with purple iris. After that she plants one half of what remains with orange marigolds. The rest of the ground is planted with red gladiolas. What percent of her garden is planted with red gladiolas?
So 1/2 of 1 is 1/2 for pink tulips
There is 1 half left so 3/4 of 1/2 is 3/8 purple iris
1/2 +3/8 is 7/8 so there is 1/8 left
So 1/2 of 1/8 is 1/16
This is where I mess up
She can't have planted 15/16 of her garden with red gladiolas so is the answer just x?

area = A
A/2 = pink Tulips
(3/8) A = purple iris
A/2 -(3/8) A = (1/8) A left
(1/2)(1/8) A = 1/16 A = left
so we want 1/16
You did fine
(1/16)* 100 = 6.25 %
A/2 = pink Tulips
(3/8) A = purple iris
A/2 -(3/8) A = (1/8) A left
(1/2)(1/8) A = 1/16 A = left
so we want 1/16
You did fine
(1/16)* 100 = 6.25 %
1/16
1/16*100= 6.25%
1/16*100= 6.25%
