CASE STUDY
Day, a 30-year old woman, has been admitted to a psychiatric hospital after a failed suicide attempt, she took a considerable amount of paraffin and an overdose of headache tablets. Her aunt found her where she was vomiting heavily and took her to a hospital. Day’s stomach was flushed out at the hospital. From examinations and medical tests done afterwards, it seemed that Day did not suffer any permanent damage from the suicide attempt. However, the doctor who treated her was worried about her mental state and transferred her to a psychiatric hospital. Prior to this episode, Day had been apprehensive about her boy friend behaviors in recent weeks, she sometimes complained to her aunty, about her inability to fall asleep, due to headache and frequent urination.
Day was not too pleased about the fact that her suicide attempt had failed. She lay wide-eyed in bed, tears rolled down her cheeks and she avoided contact with the nursing staff and fellow patients. She spoke in a slow monotonous voice. Day slept little and appeared pale and exhausted. She was not interested in food and was very skinny. She neglected her personal hygiene and displayed no interest in any activities. When her boy friend visited her in the hospital, she expressed her fear of losing him and the possibility of dead. Upon discharged from the hospital, she locked up herself indoor for several days, complaining of excessive fear and crawling sensations on her shoulders.
