Carbon dioxide enters the stomata during photosynthesis through the process known as diffusion. This process allows CO2, which is present in higher concentration in the atmosphere, to move into the leaf where it is used in the photosynthetic process, while oxygen, a byproduct of photosynthesis, diffuses out of the leaf.
