So if 50 is half of what Tyler had then he had 100. Grace had 3 times
Tyler so that would be 300. She ate 50 so she has 250 left (and a very bad stomach ache). If this is even correct is there some algebraic way to show the work??? This is just for a 4th grader and I have no idea how the teacher wants the problem worked.
Can't get started on this for my granddaughter:
Grace had 3 times as many berries as Tyler. After Grace eats 50 berries she has half as many berries as Tyler. How many berries does Grace have left.

No, don't think what I wrote before is correct.
Assume: Tyler had x berries.
so, Grace has 3x berries.
Now after Grace eats 50 berries, we have the following equation:
3x - 50 = x/2
6x - 100= x
5x = 100
x = 20
Grace had left with 10 berries.
so, Grace has 3x berries.
Now after Grace eats 50 berries, we have the following equation:
3x - 50 = x/2
6x - 100= x
5x = 100
x = 20
Grace had left with 10 berries.
Thank you so much Yrafaj!!! Robin
