During the Cold War, the US and the Soviet Union tried to make their military power stronger with nuclear weapons. This made them really worried and suspicious of each other. They kept trying to make their weapons better than the other's. This made it more likely that they might accidentally start a nuclear war because they both had lots of bombs and were ready to use them fast. All of this made the Cold War a really tense and uncertain time.
