It is only adding 1 whole number to the fraction that make looks like improper fraction; say
1 1/4 = 5/4; adding 4/4 to 1/4. 4/4 is the fraction of 1 taken from the whole number
8 5/12 = 7 17/12 (added 12/12 to 5/12)
4 5/9 = 3 14/9 (added 9/9 to 5/9)
2 1/3 = 1 4/3 (added 3/3 to 1/3)
Can you help me with my new math homework?

An easy way to solve is to multiply the coefficient (number in front of fraction) by the denominator (number in the bottom of the fraction) and place that number above denominator.
4 3/4 = (4x4) + 3)/4= 19/4
8 5/12 = (8x12) +5)/12 = 101/12 (add 96/12 + 5/12)
4 5/9 = ((4x9) +5)/9 = 41/9 (add 36/9 + 5/9)
2 1/3 = ((2x3) +1)/3 = 7/3 (add 6/3 + 1/3)
The first answer for the first question is right but in the next three questions you are just adding 1 instead of the correct number stated by the coefficient (number in front of the fraction)
heres another example:
3 5/7 = add (3x7)/7 and 5/7 = 21/7 + 5/7 = 26/7
^
^-coefficient is 3 and 21/7 = 3
4 3/4 = (4x4) + 3)/4= 19/4
8 5/12 = (8x12) +5)/12 = 101/12 (add 96/12 + 5/12)
4 5/9 = ((4x9) +5)/9 = 41/9 (add 36/9 + 5/9)
2 1/3 = ((2x3) +1)/3 = 7/3 (add 6/3 + 1/3)
