Can you check these?

1. A recipe for chocolate pudding calls for 1 ¼ cups of milk. The recipe makes 3 servings. How many cups of milk are needed to make 9 servings?

Ans: 1.25/3 = x/9
3x = 9*1.25
3x = 11.25
x = 11.25/3
x = 3.75 or 3 3/4 cups of milk

2. Two trees in Mrs. Nash’s yard are 1500 feet from each other. On a map, the two trees are 5 centimeters apart. What scale is the map using?

Ans: not sure how to setup proportion or what to do next. Please explain.

3. The scale of our map is 2 ½ inches = 50 feet. On a map, two flag poles are 4 ¼ inches apart. What is the actual distance in feet between the two poles?

Ans: Do i need to convert feet to inches first and then setup a proportion? please explain.

4. The proportion of yellow crayons to blue crayons in a box is 3 to 15. If there are 25 blue crayons in the box, how many yellow crayons are there?

Ans:not sure how to solve. Seems like I'm missing the total crayons.
3 yellow + 15 blue = 18 total?
3/18 = x/25?

4. The proportion of yellow crayons to blue crayons in a box is 3 to 15. If there are 25 blue crayons in the box, how many yellow crayons are there?

Ans: not sure what to do. given total blue crayons, but not total crayons in all. 3 yellow + 15 blue = 18 total?

3/18 = x/25 ? Please explain.

5. WHEN A TREE CASTS A 98-FOOT SHADOW, A GIANT PERSON 13 FEET TALL CASTS A 13-FOOT SHADOW. HOW TALL IS THE TREE?

Ans: not real sure. Can you explain?
98/13 = x/13
98*13 = 13x
1274 = 13x
1274/13 = x
98 = x??

4 answers

#1 - correct , all you had to do is multipy 1 1/4 by 3 ,
sinc 9 helpings = 3 x 3servings

#2
5 cm <----> 1500 ft
1 cm < ----> 500 ft, that is a scale
#3, no need to convert, if you use the same units in each fraction
2.5/4.25 = 50/x
2.5x = 212.5
x = 212.5/2.5 = 85
so it was 85 ft

#4, don't add them up
yellow/blue = 3/15 = x/25
3/15 = x/25
15x = 75
x = 5 ---> there were 5 yellow

check: yellow/blue = 5/25 = 1/5
and the original = 3/15 = 1/5
why are you repeating the questions?

btw , the very last one is correct
Thanks! didn't realize it copied twice.
