Can someone please help me ? I think I'm supposed to put all the like terms together, but I can't remember how to do this. I asked my mom but she can't remember.

Solve for x
6x - 6 equals 2x - 26

Solve for x
2x - 1 equals -5x - 85

Thank you very much. Can you explain?

1) 6x-6=2x-26
6x+20=2x
20=-4x
x=-5***
2) 2x-1=-5x-85
2x+84=-5x
84=-7x
-12=x***
if you add, subtract, multiply, or divide, you have to do it to both sides.

6x-6=2x-26
subtract 2x from each side
4x-6=-26
add six to each side
4x=-20
divide each side by 4
x=-5

2x-1=-5x-85
add 5x to both sides
7x-1=-85
add 1 to both sides
7x=-84
divide both sides by 7
x=-84/7=-12
6x - 6 equals 2x - 26

Subtract 2x from both sides.

6x - 2x - 6 = -26

Add 6 to both sides.

4x = -20

x = -5

Try the second problem yourself.
Thank you so much! I get it now😊
6x -2x =-26+6. . 4x = -20. . .x =-5 . . . . In algebra when a sign crosses the sign changes then u divide both sides , ur ansa is -5
