Molecular water consists of two atoms of hydrogen and one atom of oxygen. At temperatures below the boiling point, H2O consists of units of H2O; i.e., (H2O)x where x may be 1, 2, 3, or 4. The larger numbers predominate at lower temperature and at the boiling point of water, x = 1.
