1. What allowed settlers to Establish a colony in Texas?
For the economic perspective buying land at a much cheaper price it would help the settlers ensure a hopeful future. But in a Mexican perspective they were allowed to settle there because Mexico was trying to create a more powerful government and stay in control. In order to stay in control they decided to grant land to American settlers in hope to strengthen an alliance to retain power. However it backfired and the American’s gained more control.
That's a good answer to that question -- but I'd omit that last sentence. That comes up later!
In the beginning it was an alliance. As the war progressed the alliance faded to a hostile/enemy interaction. After the war ended and the settlers won it became a bearable interaction
In the beginning it was an alliance in hope that they would have a controlled government. As the war progressed the alliance faded because the settlers felt they had a right to be independent. After the war ended and the settlers won it became a bearable interaction
There was also the issue of religion. The Mexican govt required all settlers to be Catholic. How do you think that went over among the Anglo settlers? Read Bob Pursley's reply I linked for you (the second link).
In the beginning Mexico was hopeful that they would have a controlled government with the settlers. As the war progressed the hope faded because the settlers felt they had a right to be independent. So they went against Mexico. After the war ended and the settlers won it became a bearable interaction such as they will have a decent attitude towards each other.
The Anglos knew Mexico's conditions, including becoming Catholic, but what? What went on between the beginning of settling in Texas and the break-down BEFORE the war?
As Bob Pursley wrote, "Settlers came because of free land (but they did not become 'Mexican' in language, religion (Catholic), and politics. (They were inclined to be independent and democratic). So it didn't work out well for the government of Mexico."
All this led up to the war for Texas's independence, but not the war itself nor the results of the war. Forget the war, for this question. How did attitudes and feelings change between early settlement and when things started really falling apart.
Here's how I'd revise your last effort:
While Mexico's government expected the settlers to acquire the Mexican religion, politics, and language, the settlers did the opposite because they had been used to being independent. Offering free land in order to get settlers in Texas backfired on the government of Mexico.
I think in the perspective would vary because Mexico saw it as an invasion and an abuse of trust. While Settlers saw it as independence. Such as Mexico had only a few rules to settlers forming there but the settlers didn’t follow them. While settlers were used to there independence and believed that the rules weren’t good. S they rebelled and formed their own republic.
The rest seems okay, but be sure you make sure you have no sentence fragments, runons, misspellings, etc. Read it aloud to your dad and find those fragments and runons, etc.
I think the perspective would vary because Mexico saw it as an abuse of trust. While Settlers saw it as independence. Such as Mexico said they needed to learn Spanish and be Catholic in order to stay, and the settlers didn’t become catholic or learn Spanish. While settlers were used to their independence, and believed that the rules weren’t good. So, they rebelled and formed their own republic.
