I would not have thought of that answer but I would certainly include it.
I would also include specifics such as trade connection between Byzantine Empire and the Vikings (I say that because it is very important in the news right now but no one knows that except historians and Henry Kissinger). Those Vikings from Scandinavia were called "Rus" (you can see where this is going) and set up river routes with short land portages down through what is now Russia and Ukraine linking the resources of the Baltic Sea and the North to the Black Sea in the South. One of their two main cities was Kiev (now Ukraine capital) which was therefore Rus before Russia existed :)
The connection was interdependence because it opened the resources of the North to the Byzantine Empire and brought the grain of the Black Sea and Mediterranean and other needs to the Vikings in the North. The Rus (Vikings) also provides soldiers for the Byzantine Empire.
That is just one example. For a down side see Cuba and Russia. Although Cuba depended on Russia for ttanks and food, and the Russians depended on Cuba for good cigars and I suppose for rum if they drink it, the interdependence kept Cuba apart from the mainstream of inter- America trade.
