Balance the equation:

Note: If a chemical species coefficient is "1" then "1" needs to be entered in the field before that species.
___MnO4(–) + __H(+) + ___Fe2 + __Mn(2+) + ___H2O + ____Fe(3+)

3 answers

i got 1,8,1,1,4,1 but the second coeffient(one) and the last coeffient(one) are incorrect. im not sure what goes for ____Fe(2+) and ___Fe(3+)
thats not the ansr, need a check
The error you are making is that you are not making the loss of electrons equal to the gain of electrons. Mn goes from +7 on the left to +2 on the right, a gain of 5 electrons. Fe goes from +2 on the left to +3 on the right, a loss of 1 electron. To make the gain and loss of electrons equal, Mn must be multiplied by 1 and Fe by 5.
Therefore, 1 MnO4^-, 1 Mn, 5Fe^+2, and 5Fe^+3 are the basic numbers. I think your other numbers are ok but check them, too, after putting in those four that must be correct to start the balancing.
