at what temperature is the number of degrees celsius equal tio the number of degrees fahrenheit??

4 answers

In the celsius scale, the difference between the freezing and boiling points of water, at 0 and 100 degrees, is 100 degrees. In the farenheit scale, the freezing point of water is 32 degrees, while the boiling point is 212 degrees, placing the boiling and freezing points of water exactly 180 degrees apart.

Thus, a temperature interval of one degree Fahrenheit is an interval of 5/⁄9 of a degree Celsius, therefore the Fahrenheit and Celsius scales coincide at −40 degrees.

Alternatively use

9/5C +32 =F

so are equal when F=C

9/5C+32=C

32=C-9/5C

32=(5C-9C)/5

160=-4C

-40=C
