velocity of 96 km/h toward the west, is 24 km
to the west of our school.
How far from the school will it be at 3:30
p.m.?
Answer in units of km.

I've been attempting this problem for at least 30 minutes and not getting the right answer. Help? Thanks!

car travels west.
from 1:00 to 3:30 is 1.5 hours.
speed is 96km/h.
so, in that 1.5 hours, it travels 144 km.

at 1:00 it was already 24km away.
So, 1.5 hours later it is now 24+144 = 168km away.
