The ship would have to travel at a lower speed.
Perhaps the teacher is unaware of the Theory of Relativity. If so, he or she should not be teaching this subject.

Now imagine that Captain Kirk wants to bring the ship to a complete stop in a distance of 30km. What braking or stopping force would be required to accomplish this?
