"The number of girls on the two buses were equal"
let the number of girls on each bus be x
So the number of students on the nonAC bus = x+17
and the number of students on the AC bus = 73-x-17 = 56-x
(3/5)(56-x) = x
168 - 3x = 5x
8x=168
x = 21
so on the AC bus we had 56-x = 56-21 = 35
of which 21 were girls and 14 were boys
on the nonAC bus we has 21 girls and 17 boys
check:
total = 21+14+21+17 = 73
is (3/5)(35) = 21 ? YES!
All is good!
btw, what are wee girls?
